RCIA 2014/15    EASTER

This year's RCIA initiation celebrations were spread over the first week of Easter.  Jenni and Sophia completed their initiation Rites at the Easter Vigil on 4th April and Claire during Sunday evening Mass on the 12th April.

Many Congratulations to

Jenni Dickinson, Claire Munday and Sophia Jaques

The Easter Vigil is a special time at the climax of the Church's Liturgical year.  It begins with the Blessing of the Fire and the lighting of the new Paschal Candle and followed by a time of quiet listening to familiar passages from the Old Testament. The mood then changes dramatically as we celebrate Easter with lights, incense, bells and joy and the proclamation of the Gospel telling of the empty tomb and Christ's Resurrection.  This is followed by the Rites of Initiation for our candidates including their full participation in the Eucharist for the first time.

For Jenni who had been baptised in another Christian denomination these Rites were a Profession of Faith and a formal acceptance as a member of the Catholic Church then her Confirmation and first Communion.  Sophia had already been baptised in the Catholic Church and celebrated her Confirmation and first Communion.

Claire was not able to be at the Easter Vigil and so was received into the Catholic Church the following week at the 5:30pm Mass on 12th April.  Like Jenni, she also made a Profession of Faith, was formally Received into the Catholic Church and was Confirmed and took her first Communion.  Although Claire's reception was not at the Vigil with the others she was very well supported by her family and friends and it was a lovely Mass.

On behalf of the whole RCIA group I would like to thank Fr Niall for making the Rites live in such a special way and also to thank the candidates' sponsors: Kelly Rozee, Catriona Abrahams and Kath Gable for supporting and accompanying our candidates throughout this Journey of Faith.

Our RCIA group will continue to meet until Pentecost for Stage 4 "Mystagogia" which is designed to help our new Catholics reflect on what has happened and prepare for the challenges of living their Faith in the years to come.

If you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about the Catholic Church please complete the enquiry form on this website.
